The choice of post workout meal is quite important due to its impact on muscle growth, recovery and repair .In order to fuel a workout, the body diminishes its supply of glycogen. As the supplies are depleted the body enters a catabolic state, where increased levels of cortisol begin to break down muscle tissue. In order to promote an anabolic state where protein synthesis is increased and muscle tissue breakdown minimized, the body requires an easily digestible meal where nutrients can be readily absorbed. The meal should contain carbohydrates to replenish glycogen stores and protein for the amino acids required for protein synthesis and muscle building.
