The amount of calories your body burns is regulated by your metabolism. Your body’s metabolic rate can be divided into three components being your basal metabolic rate, energy expended during physical activity and the thermic effect of food you digest. Your metabolic rate is influenced by many factors including your age, gender, lean muscle mass, amount of physical activity and hormone function. It is difficult to control your metabolism but you can make it work in your favour through regular exercise.
