Stress - How does stress affect me?
Stress not only affects our minds, but our bodies too. It has been shown that stress may cause anxiety, depression, insomnia, weight loss and muscle tension. When we are feeling stressed our heart beat, breathing rate and blood pressure all rise. It is difficult for our bodies to cope with such elevations for prolonged periods of time. This leaves us more susceptible to illness or disease.
So how do you counteract stress? The best way to counteract, or minimize stress levels is to lead a healthy, balanced life, that is, maintain good nutrition levels, exercise regularly and have adequate rest & relaxation time. If you need to relax more, set aside time to take a soothing bath, meditate, take a gentle stroll, swim or take a yoga or stretching class.
