Dieting – Don’t Do It!

Over the course of our lifetime we are bombarded by images of trim, toned, sexy people. The media, especially magazines promote diets which claim to be able to radically transform your body. However they do not tell us the real dangers of dieting…

 

In essence a diet will help you to lose weight, but it will not help you to keep the weight off. Only a sustainable, healthy lifestyle can do this! Diets work by restricting your intake of energy (calories). Once you have lost the weight and return to your normal eating patterns, the weight creeps back on. This is because the diet, in the long term, is not sustainable.

 

The real dangers of dieting however are not just gaining the lost weight back again, but the slowing of metabolism, increasing susceptibility to a range of eating disorders and the experience of fatigue, headaches, dehydration and weakness whilst on the diet. To keep weight at bay, simply follow a healthy lifestyle plan, including regular exercise, a variety of nutritious food and adequate rest
