Pre Workout Meal
A nutritious and well timed pre workout meal is extremely important as it will determine the intensity and length of your training. There is no point in going into a strenuous workout without any energy to fuel the body! The body relies on existing glycogen and fat stores to fuel a workout. It is therefore essential to replenish these stores through good nutrition about 90minutes before you begin training. This ensures fuel is readily available when the workout commences. Carbohydrates are a preferred choice as they are easily digested. In addition, 15% of the total calories of your meal should come from protein. Because fat takes longer to digest, and therefore uses more energy than protein and carbohydrates, it should be kept to a minimum immediately before a workout.
